Wings and Things Monogramming has been proudly designing patches since our opening in 1987. We have designed thousands upon thousands of patches for military squadrons, commands, detachments, and classes worldwide as well as locals stationed here at NAS Pensacola.
Guidelines for new embroidered patch designs
Process:
1. Submit your desired design using the guidelines listed below.
2. Our artist will work up a digital version of your design which we will send to you for approval. Edits or changes to the overall design can be made at this point.
2b. If there are requested changes the artist will rework the design and the new artwork will be sent back to you for approval. (please allow at least 24 hours to receive updated artwork for approval)
3. You approve the design and we collect the setup fee.
4. The design is digitized for embroidery and a sewn sample is made. A scan of the sewn sample will be sent to you for approval. Minor edits to color or text may be made at this time. This is the last opportunity for changes.
4. You approve the sewn sample and give us a final count of the desired quantity.
5. Design is then put in production!
Design submission guidelines
Submit a design to:
orders@wings-and-things.com
Submitted designs can be as simple as a stick man drawing or rough shapes just to show placement/layout. If possible please include any/all source images used and add a brief description including any references such as memes, cartoons, celebrities, etc.
Let us know what size and shape you'd like your patch to be. If the width and height are not equal please include both measurements if possible or specify which measurement is given if not.
If you desire a specific font you must include the name of the font. If there are any aircraft , ships, etc please indicate what model.
If you know what colors you would like use, let us know what colors you want and where (including text, border, and background), otherwise the artist will use their best judgement.
Key information:
Text cannot have an outline unless it is very large.
Rockers can only hold a limited amount of text and ribbon rockers hold even less so if you want more than 2 or 3 words per rocker you may need to forego rockers and do a full circle.
We have a minimum size for text for it to stitch well and be legible. The default font we use is Myriad pro bold and the minimum size for that font is 20 pt.
Maximum colors per design is 10 including black and white and they add up fast so watch your colors when adding elements to your design.
Patch creation is an involved process and while we will do our best to get your patches made as quickly as possible we prefer at least 2 weeks from start to finish so if you need your patches by a certain date you will need to plan ahead!
For name tag designs: Due to the nature of the process the artwork will not include wing/device or name/rank etc until the sewn sample.
If you are unsure of what you want we can absolutely work with you to create a design you are happy with!
Production steps:
Patches are embroidered in batches on the machines up to 6 at a time (this is the only step done in batches, everything else is done by hand or with individual machines)
Any loose threads are then trimmed and the backs are heat sealed.
Patches are then cut out and merrowed (the merrow is that nice clean border around the outside)
and finally velcro is added if requested.
